There are also educational videos and links on each ensemble page, as well as in the pages “Educational Videos” and “Beginning Band.”

I’m very excited for a great year of music, and thrilled to be presenting Mean Girls this year. Everything you need should be posted, or will be shortly.

I’m looking forward to a great season of music, to several fun trips and concerts, and to our first musical in several years at Selkirk!

Happy New Year. I’ve updated all of the pages, cleaned up links, and created a new “educational videos” page to make things tidier. There are also a lot of new recordings and artists in the “listening” section.

Over the coming weeks I will continue to add student resources to this site. Some things you will see:

– More links to educational videos on both the instrumental and choral pages.

– Recordings of repertoire from the Selkirk Music 2019-2020 season, including part tracks for both vocal and instrumental music.

– New recordings on the “Listening” page.

– For grade 7 band students, recordings of key songs from our music book at different speeds so students can practice along.

– For Selkirk vocal students, recordings of scales and other singing exercises.

I’m excited for a terrific season of music this year! With Selkirk Music I’m looking forward to running a jazz band and jazz choir again this year, and for festivals in Canmore, Alberta and Moscow Idaho, as well as other trips and performances. In my own playing I’m excited for another season with the Symphony of the Kootenays and also to continuing my monthly gig at the Heidout in Cranbrook with The littlejazz Orchestra.

I’m looking forward to a terrific season of music coming up. In schools I’m thrilled to be directing Bring It On, presented by Selkirk Secondary School, from April 11-14 2018 at McKim Theatre. Information for participating students will be up on this website in the coming weeks. I’m also taking a group of Selkirk students to New York for a week in March, which I’m very excited about. I’m also looking forward to working with Allison Girvan when she comes out in February to do a choral workshop with my students.

In my own music I’m thrilled to be a part of a new recording, my first in a few years now. The littlejazz Orchestra, of which I have been a part for two years, has just finished recording our debut album this summer. Look for that disc and promotional shows in the fall. I’m also looking forward to playing with the Symphony of the Kootenays for another season.

Listening and practice tracks for Selkirk groups for this school year are starting to get uploaded onto the Student Resources page. They will all be up by Labour Day weekend.

I’m looking forward to a great production of Beauty and the Beast in May. With 55 actors from McKim and Selkirk, this will be an exciting and huge production. This fall I’ll be fulfilling a long-time dream of playing in a percussion ensemble. We’ll be at the Stage Door in Cranbrook December 12th and The Fernie Arts Station on December 13th.

Clips of some of the pieces that we’ll be performing this year can also be found on the Student Resources page. That list is not exhaustive. Additions are still being made and any songs where I couldn’t find a high-quality recording are not on the list.
